I am sure that many of you will be asking yourselves – who is Julie Brosius? Why is she running for mayor? What can she do? Does she really believe she can make a difference?
For those of you who may remember my mother, Jean L. Pick – She hit the boards of the basketball courts and would skate for hours at Jimmy’s on the Island.
I am a taxpayer like you, someone who shares the same interests, worries and concerns as you, and someone who, having seen the way in which Sunbury is currently being run, is stepping up to the plate with a desire to guide our community in a new and better direction.
My career includes experience in finance, law, executive administration in marketing, and I am currently employed in research at Geisinger Health Systems. My roots are in the 5th Ward. My family and many friends are the building blocks of my spirit and character. The welfare of our citizens is my major concern. The history of our city is my passion.
One morning I woke up and thought “What has happened to Sunbury?” and next I asked myself “Could I do something about it, and if so, how?” My ideas progressed from this basic starting point.
Elsewhere on this Website I will be setting out my vision for Sunbury. We are faced with no easy task, but my commitment is absolute, my eyes are opened and I can see a way ahead to a better future. Although I am running as a Republican, I seek support from people of all political persuasions. For me, local issues transcend party politics. The community as a whole will be my focal point.
I want to return government to the people and to run an open administration. I will encourage the participation of all and be prepared to work with everyone, answer their questions, and do whatever I can to address their concerns. I will not back away from hard or unpopular choices, but I will proceed ethically and work with others to identify, support, defend and justify the best position on each and every issue we face. Above all, we will face them together.
There are many problems at City Hall. I will recruit new blood, but also identify those within the present organization with the abilities to do more. A city administrator will be appointed to bring professional management to what is a multi-million dollar business, and departmental heads will actually be allowed to manage, rather than, as at present, be micro-managed.
Elected officials must be accountable to the community they serve for their every action. Unfortunately the current administration appears to think otherwise. Too often your vote has been devalued by them losing sight of the oath they swore, and of their responsibility to all our citizens, and not just to a privileged few. Officials should serve the people rather than make use of their positions to serve themselves.
Vote for me – Julie Brosius. Our future begins now. It is time for change in Sunbury!
